We are pleased to announce that Ms. Sambo NOV, former General Manager of Khéma La Poste, has been appointed as the new General Manager of Malis Phnom Penh restaurant.
\”Thalias has been a land of opportunities for me to excel in my career in the hospitality industry. My two years and seven months at Khéma La Poste allowed me to learn so much about food and beverage, particularly about the gourmet French cuisine. I am excited to be now part of the well-known established Malis Restaurant in Phnom Penh. I will continue carrying this outstanding legacy of bringing out the best of Cambodian Living Cuisine,\” announced the new General Manager.
Sambo joined Thalias in March 2017 bringing with her more than 18 years experience in the hospitality industry in which she has flourished. Although originally from Phnom Penh, she has spent most of her career in Siem Reap, initially with JHC Angkor Tour with whom she stayed for six years, including a year in Tokyo. We should mention that in addition to her native tongue, Sambo speaks fluent English and Japanese.
The trip to Japan was a hugely important one for her though. Not just for her language skills, but also for the challenges it brought. “This was my first time outside of Cambodia,” she says. “I didn’t speak the language at all, not even ‘arigato’. “One day I couldn’t even have dinner because I didn’t know the word for rice in Japanese and the shop owner near my house didn’t speak English. That early conversation didn’t go very well, but one year in Tokyo gave me a world of experiences professionally and personally that have built up my teamwork, commitment, support and work ethic, as well as my resourcefulness. I don’t think that would happen again. No matter where I am.”
Coming back to Siem Reap, Sambo was quickly picked up by Borei Angkor Resort as a sales manager and soon worked her way up becoming director of sales and marketing for one of the most important hotels in Siem Reap. She stayed with the same group when she moved to Lotus Blanc Resort as resident manager and director of guest experiences, before she was appointed as an account director for the group holding company Innotality (which owns Borei Angkor Resort and Lotus Blanc Resort, as well as The Privilege Floor).
But home called, and Sambo moved back to Phnom Penh four years ago to oversee the opening of Sun & Moon Urban Hotel, before joining Thalias and specifically Khéma La Poste as the General Manager of the restaurant.
With such a career in the hospitality industry and extensive knowledge and experience, Ms. Sambo Nov is a great asset to Malis Phnom Penh. The restaurant will continue to provide guests with our unique Living Cambodian Cuisine, while striving to further meet your expectations.
We, and Sambo, are looking forward very much to seeing you there.
